Optional orientation session for parents/caregivers and prospective students:
Thursday, Sept. 28, 4:30-5:30pm

In this four-week workshop, high school seniors and others applying to college this fall will learn how to brainstorm, outline, write and revise a compelling Personal Statement essay to submit with their college applications. The 650-word Personal Statement essay is part of the Common Application used by almost all four-year colleges and universities. Students will also learn how to approach writing shorter supplemental essays, which are required by many colleges as part of the application package.

The workshop will cover what the Personal Statement essay is all about, how to generate ideas for the essay, and how to write an essay that presents your most authentic self to admissions committees. We will also create supplemental essays that complement the Personal Statement essay. Students will have time to write and revise both essays during the workshop meetings, and there will be at-home writing assignments included. Students who participate fully can expect to leave the workshop with finished essays.

Open to Delaware County residents who are applying to college this fall. All sessions are held at Bushel Collective: 106 Main Street, Delhi NY.

Cost: Sliding donation scale of $5-$10 per session, no one turned away for lack of funds.
This workshop is capped at 10 students. Pre-registration and payment for the first session are required to reserve a spot.
