Jonathan Kane’s February

Drummer Jonathan Kane (Swans, La Monte Young, Rhys Chatham) and his 4 guitar band February will stage a sonic assault at Bushel on Leap Day night. JK and the Febs will perform Kane’s 30 minute blues-ified arrangement of Rhys Chatham’s minimalist classic ‘Guitar Trio’, and more of February’s loudest trance/blues hits. Dancing is strongly encouraged.

Jonathan Kane was the driving force behind La Monte Young’s Forever Bad Blues Band and a founding member of Swans, so he’s well placed to tear down the fences that some people (mostly journalists) have been trying to rebuild between Art and Rock. His music swings, and swings hard. In homage to (Rhys) Chatham, Kane covers his 1977 “Guitar Trio”, but slows the tempo and switches the meter from simple to compound, a quantum leap that reconfigures Chatham’s sleek binary sports car into a heaving R&B juggernaut.
