In conjunction with the current exhibition “Symbiocene Era: Mycelium, Soils and Roots,” Gabriela D’Elia will lead a Deep Imagination Mushroom Circle as a ritual space to journey with the wildness of the soul-based teachings that arise from fungi.

D’Elia explains: Fungi resonate deep in our psyches as archetypal inhabitants of dual worlds: realms above and below; seen and unseen; death and rebirth. Fungi are sacred ancestors and guides of soul cycles between heaven, earth, and the underworld. They can orient us in our soul’s journey through transformation and connection.

In this workshop, attendees will explore how fungi are essential to the resilience of earth’s ecosystems and human wellness. “We will also commune with fungi in ritual practices and invitations,” says D’Elia. “We look to fungi to help us bridge the worlds of the known and the unknown. Spiritual wholeness is ecological. Together, we will meander along the mycelial path to connect the hyphae and re-awaken ancestral knowledge of times and lands in which humans looked to fungi for myth, magic, and medicine.”

Attendees are asked to dress comfortably and to bring: a pen, journal, offerings for the altar (dried flowers or mushrooms, tobacco, sacred items), blanket, cushion or mat to sit on.

Gabriela D’Elia grew up in the Rocky Mountains, fell in love with fungi in the Pacific Northwest, and since 2022 has made home in the hills of the sky – the “Catskills.” D’Elia served as Executive Director for Fungal Diversity Survey for over 3 years, and now serves as board member. Through her fungal advocacy work she has built the first state-wide government funded fungal diversity project (“CA FUNDIS”) and initiated the successful campaign to designate Porcini (Boletus edulis) as Utah’s state mushroom. Gabriela guides workshops, mushroom walks, myco-diversity surveys, and weekend mushroom retreats with Catskill Fungi and has been a featured speaker at the Annual Telluride Mushroom Festival and New York Botanical Garden. “Fungi as climate allies” was recently broadcast at Mongabay Media.
