[off-site art opening] Vintage Robots–Humanoid Visions of the Future
Sat, Jun 01, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Let’s all go to Margaretville to meet the robots! The Space Age Museum is mounting a pop-up exhibit at the Galli Curci Theater, 801 Main Street in Margaretville, NY. Everyone is invited to the opening on Saturday, June 1, 4–8 pm for a first look at the show. Refreshments will be served. Free and open to the public.

Many of you will remember when the Space Age Museum was in residence at Bushel in 2022. With triple the square footage at the Galli Curci Theater, the Space Age Museum will be able to present a large number of its early robot sculptures, alongside artifacts and historic photographs from the Kleeman Family Space Collection’s extensive compilation of folk art, graphic design, amusement rides, vintage snapshots, space toys, trade stimulators, and other outer space-related material culture.

The exhibition curator Peter Kleeman remarks, “My hope is that “Vintage Robots–Humanoid Visions of the Future” will encourage viewers to question how the robotic form continues to influence their view of the world and their relationship with technology— particularly as artificial intelligence (AI), automation, and robotics rapidly and increasingly infuse everyday life.”

The show is open for viewing June 1– July 9, 2024, Saturdays and Sundays, 12 noon–4 pm. Kleeman will be on site to connect with visitors and gather feedback in person during Open Hours. Weekday appointments can be requested via email or text/phone 413.896.7195.

Bushel is pleased to serve as a community partner of this project as part of the Delaware County Arts Grants regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts, administered by the Roxbury Arts Group.
