FORBIDDEN is a documentary about Moises Serrano who grew up queer and undocumented in rural North Carolina. See trailer here.
Karina Miccio Walker, educator and advocate, will lead the conversation following the film. Walker is an assistant professor of Spanish in the Department of Modern Languages, and a member of the steering committee for the interdisciplinary Women’s and Gender Studies minor, at Hartwick College. Walker’s academic focus revolves around the construction of identity as it relates to culturally and socially imposed notions of nation, race, and gender, and its expression in contemporary Spanish cultural production.
This is the second screening in the third season of the Get Woke! monthly film/discussion series, an effort intended to get people talking about race with filmmakers, educators, and guests—and each other. Bushel is pleased to be a co-sponsor of the series. Free and open to the public.
The Get Woke! screenings/discussions take place monthly on Sundays, 4:00-6:00 pm, on the SUNY-Delhi Campus in Sanford Hall, room 250. The full screening schedule, directions, parking, and logistical information are posted on the Get Woke! website.
