About ‘Shape of the Question’
From August 23 – September 22, 2024, lily gold and collaborators will weave themselves, along with paper, fabric, and other material into a weight bearing loom that stretches from the floor to the rafters. Visitors are invited to weave themselves into the installation with their voices, bodies, and presence as well as materials from their homes and communities.
“shape of the question is a ritual, residency, artifact and performance experiment that encourages viewers and participants to live in the soft edges of resistance. in continued exploration of recycled paper as body, from my chronically ill perspective, this work highlights the labor it takes to refuse engines of production, transmute internalized ableism, and repattern societal taboos in order to rest. by slowing down, we collectively destabilize the notion that our value is tied to our productivity, and ask: who and what holds us in our necessary unraveling? shape of the question is a space to be in prayer, wonder, rage, grief, rest, play, and interconnection with each other and our more-than-human kin.” —lily gold
