[Performance + Reception] Echo Logic Time

Join us for the live performance, artist talk and reception of Echo Logic Time, an experimental visual score created by Rhea Nowak. The score will be performed by Andris Balins, electronic musician and recording engineer, Arta Jekabsone, vocalist and composer, and Julie Licata, percussionist.
Reception on Friday June 5 from 6-8pm, with live performance at 7pm followed by an artist talk.
Echo Logic Time and other works will be on view from May 31 through June 6. This 17-foot-long etching and aquatint print was created to honor the vast time and complex spaces of this planet of which we each are a small but integral part. As the planet lives in concert with the collaborative forces, energy and matter, the score becomes complete with collaborative sound provided by the musicians.
Eternity can be a quality of time.
Rhea Nowak, visual artist and collaborator, works in mixed media. She received her BA from Bennington College in Printmaking and Painting, her MFA from the University of Connecticut in Printmaking and Drawing, and a Master Printer Certificate from Il Bisonte, in Florence, Italy. She is a Professor at the State University of New York at Oneonta where she teaches printmaking, design, and artist’s books. Her work been exhibited in juried and solo exhibitions in the U.S., Europe, and China. She has attended funded residencies at Jentel in Banner WY, The Church in Sag Harbor NY, and the Anderson Center at Tower View in Red Wing MN. Other projects include Trialogs, a collaborative DVD of images and sound with Julie Licata, percussionist, and Bret Masteller, electronic musician, and has performed as a member of the group Buildings and Mountains with musicians Andris Balins and Casey Ruland. Andris Balins has been making and recording music for over 20 years at Dryhill Studios in Oneonta NY, and as a freelance engineer. Andris has taught the audio arts at Hartwick College, SUNY Broome, and is currently teaching at SUNY Oneonta. His debut album as Simple was released in February 2026. The album L B is a weaving of field recordings and music composed and recorded over the past 30 years. Andris is a member of the cumbia band Grupo Susquehanna who released their first album in 2024. He co-founded the Owl Records label in 2010 with Casey Ruland, which features music made in upstate New York. As an audio engineer he has worked with Sean Lennon, The Fat White Family, Moonlandingz, Dazzling Killmen, and Good Luck Mountain.
Latvian-born vocalist, composer, and arranger Arta Jēkabsone infuses her jazz with Baltic soul and an unshakable sense of storytelling. Seamlessly blending Latvian folk melodies with contemporary jazz expression, she crafts music that is both intimate and daring. Jēkabsone is the winner of the Montreux Shure Jazz Voice Competition and has placed among the top three in several other prestigious international competitions, including the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Voice Competition. Her acclaimed debut album Light brims with intimacy, warmth, and crystal-clear focus. A recipient of The Jazz Gallery Residency Commission Grant 2021/2022, she regularly premieres original works at The Jazz Gallery in New York City. In 2023, she received Latvia’s highest recognition in music: the Latvian Music Award for New Artist of the Year. In 2024, she earned an honorable mention in the Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Awards (ASCAP Foundation). And in 2025 she was awarded a NYFA Fellowship and was invited to join the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop, where she is developing new works for big band. In October 2025, Arta released her solo Latvian-Alternative folk-jazz music album Dziesmu Kamoliņš (Garland of Songs) which was nominated for the Annual Latvian Recording Award 2026. Julie Licata is a percussionist/drummer, noisemaker, collaborator, and educator. She has been Coordinator of Percussion at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio since 2022. She performs and presents regularly at music venues, colleges, and conferences across the US, with an emphasis on improvised music, integrating acoustic instruments with analog and digital processing, and performing in mixed instrument chamber ensembles. She recently released an album of improvised music titled Textured Travels with guitarist Stan Smith; an album of flute and percussion music titled Reciprocity with Windstruck Duo (including Ana Laura González on flutes) and resound/unsound with co-creators Andris Balins and Brett Masteller that features percussive improvisations with time lag accumulation, feedback looping, and modular synthesis.
