Threads of Tradition: Shipibo-Konibo Textile Arts [Exhibition Opening & Fundraiser]
Sat, Oct 07, 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

RECEPTION / PARTY, FUNDRAISER

Please join us for an evening of art, stories, media, food, and music to celebrate and support the Shipibo Konibo, a resilient, indigenous community in the Peruvian Amazon.

The event will open with a viewing of the exhibition “Threads of Tradition,” featuring hand-painted and embroidered textiles, sculpture, and jewelry by Shipibo Konibo women artisans. At 5:30 pm, curator of the exhibition Martha Ma will present a brief talk titled “Spirit of the Selva: Life with the Shipibo Konibo of the Peruvian Amazon,” followed by a Q&A. Afterwards Beten (a traditional stew) will be served and Shipibo art will be available for purchase.

This event is free and open to the public, with donations encouraged. All funds raised during the event will benefit Inin Rabi, a newly formed non-profit whose mission is to support Shipibo Konibo efforts to alleviate poverty and recover autonomy. Taking place during Indigenous Peoples’ Day weekend, this exhibition and fundraiser are organized to raise awareness, celebrate, and honor Indigenous culture.
