Please join us for a brunchtime opening reception for the culminating exhibition of Weaving Club! This short-run exhibition will showcase work created by the participants of the summer-long series and will also invite the public to engage in the ancient practice of weaving using a range of looms and materials. The exhibition will be on view during open hours from Friday, September 27 through Sunday, September 29, 2024.

WEAVING CLUB
Over the course of eight workshops, participants engaged in the ancient craft of handweaving as a practice in embodiment — as a way to participate and respond to life, to the environment, to pay attention, engage the senses and connect in community.
The overarching inquiry and exploration of the workshop series was – What is Weaving? What is a Loom? This was explored conceptually, technically, historically, and poetically, each week as participants wove on simple looms using a range of materials – from locally sourced wool, to cordage they made from local plants, cotton, linen, silk, paper, along with others.
The loom offered a site of exploration for participants to consider their relationship to place, to the land they inhabit, to their ancestral lands and textile traditions, as well as to plant, animal, elemental, and spirit kin that also weave in many forms. It also allowed them to consider their relationship to both time and deep-time through rhythm, repetition, pattern, and structure.
The workshops ran from mid June – September, 2024, meeting every other Saturday and were completely free and open to the public thanks to a community arts grant from the Roxbury Arts Group.
