About Inter-Voice: Inter-Voice is a collaborative vocal practice based on the idea that everyone can sing, and that each of us learns to do so over a lifetime. Rather than “skill” and “talent”, we draw on our imagination, and our intuitive and expressive capacities to dissolve the thresholds between teaching and learning, performer and audience, improvisation and composition. Together we explore the relationship of the voice to embodiment, memory, and language.
INTER-VOICE is a pedagogical experiment. We are Learning to Sing in parking lots, theaters, temples, museums, and in rented studios!
INTER-VOICE is also the name of a draft text synthesizing scores, online sources, and a series of open-form exercises that act as a composite for vocal instruction.
INTER-VOICE has been hosted by “Schema for a School” with artist Asad Raza, along with Jeff Dolven, and D. Graham Burnett as part of A Prelude to the Shed; at Mount Tremper Arts; and at the historic Open Eye Theater, in Margaretville, NY.
Organized by artist and vocalist Sahra Motalebi.
