Writing Workshop for the LGBTQIA+ Community
Tue, May 16, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
CLASS / WORKSHOP
Delaware County Pride is offering a six-part workshop series at Bushel for LGBTQIA+ folks, focused on writing personal essays. Led by queer writer and storyteller Alex Alberto, the group meets on Tuesday evenings from May 2nd to June 6th, 6:30–8:30 pm. A public reading to showcase participants’ stories will be held at Bushel on Friday, June 23, at 6 pm.
Participants will learn the foundational “craft” elements of the personal essay through readings and group discussions. They will participate in short writing sessions in class (based on specific prompts given by the instructor), then draft and polish their essay between class meetings. Participants will provide feedback on each other’s essays, and everyone will have the opportunity to read their story at the public reading at the end of the workshop. Let’s celebrate queer voices in Delaware County!
This workshop series is open to anyone 17 years and older. No prior writing experience is required, just a commitment to the six weekly sessions and a desire to share your story! If you are interested in participating, please fill out the interest form here before April 22. The cost of attending the workshop series will be on a sliding scale, $60–$180 ($10–$30 per session).
