The Stamford Library will host the first annual Community Wellness Fair on Thursday, September 29, 1–5 pm. The Stamford Library is located at 117 Main Street in the village of Stamford. The event will combine scheduled presentations, information tables, children’s activities, a variety of raffles, light refreshments, interactive demonstrations, and more!
Stamford Wellness Center, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Delaware County, Fidelis Care, Tobacco Free Communities, Mountain’s Bounty Massage Therapy, the Catskill Addiction Coalition, Delaware County Office for the Aging, Delaware, Otsego, Schoharie, Oneida, Herkimer, and Madison Counties Cancer Services Program, Delaware County Pride, and others will be participating.
Scheduled presentations will begin at 1 p.m. with an opening blessing circle led by RN Herbalist Marguerite Uhlmann-Bower and Miki Aso, of Plant Pioneers. The opening blessing is intended to celebrate and heal our relationship with land and place, focusing on resurrecting our innate role as good Earth stewards.
Presentations will continue at 1:30 p.m. when a representative of the Cancer Services Program will lead a presentation on breast, cervical, and colon cancer prevention and early detection, including who should be screened and when.
At 2 p.m., join choreographer, movement educator, and Zen practitioner clyde fusei forth, from Movement from Center, for Zazen Demystified and learn about this sitting meditation focusing on postures for slowing down and waking up and at 2:30 p.m. Rachel Condry will lead a presentation on Deep Listening and Moving Practice.
At 3 p.m., Heather Warner, of Delaware County Public Health, will talk about HPV education and vaccination for cancer prevention and at 3:30 p.m. clyde fusei forth of Movement from Center will return to present The Arrival Score, featuring guided visualization and movement meditation that offers a way to arrive fully in each present moment by tapping into sensory awareness at the cellular systemic level.
Scheduled presentations will wrap up at 4 p.m. with Wellness Starts with Nurturing a Healthy Gut presented by RN Herbalist Marguerite Uhlmann-Bower and Miki Aso of Plant Pioneers.
Throughout the event, children ages seven and up are invited to join Megan Avery, of Hipstitch Academy, as she provides all the materials, expertise, and guidance necessary to create their own Lavender Eye Pillows! Coloring pages and other hands-on activities will be available for younger children.
A wide variety of raffle prizes will also be up for grabs and each organization you talk to will provide you with another chance to win. Raffles prizes include one-month gift certificates to the Stamford Gym, a Dragon Masters book series gift basket, private sessions with clyde fusei forth from Movement from Center, an essential oil package from Plant Pioneers, a private consultation with RN Herbalist Marguerite Uhlmann-Bower, a wellness basket from Mountain’s Bounty Massage Therapy, a bike rental gift certificate from Big Lug Bicycle Outfitter, gift certificates from T.P.’s Café and Mountain Dog Café, a basket full of locally made goods, and more!
Light refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to all.
