Delaware County
JUSTICE RIDE FOR BLACK LIVES
Juneteenth (Friday, June 19), 6:00 – 8:30 PM
Are you on the freedom side? Join us for a cross-county caravan in support of Black lives and racial justice on Juneteenth, which commemorates the day in 1865 when previously enslaved people in Texas learned of their emancipation.
Decorate your vehicle with Black Lives Matter messages, and join at one of the meet-up locations below. Please help keep this event safe for everyone — practice both safe driving and safe social distancing.
Our caravan will pass three sites that represent the need for change in this county:
- SUNY-Delhi, where students of color have long reported patterns of racist policing
- Cornell Cooperative Extension, which like Cornell University as a whole, continues to participate in county fairs like ours where hate merchandise is sold or displayed
- Delaware County Fairgrounds, where despite five consecutive years of community requests, the Fair Board has refused to ban the sale and display of Confederate flag merchandis
We will end the event by placing flowers at the Civil War monument in the Walton Cemetery across from the fairgrounds. Wear a face covering and remain at least six feet apart from others.
